Archaeology Presentation

Recent Research on the Late Ice Age Hunters of Iowa

Evidence relating to the initial human occupation of Iowa at the end of the last Ice Age some 11,000 years ago by hunters associated with the Clovis archaeological culture is extremely sparse. Matthew Hill, Iowa State University, will relate how the recently (re)discovered Carlisle Cache offers new information on Clovis landscape learning, lithic technology and mobility patterns with broad implications for the peopling of the New World.

Cost: $2.50/adult, $1/child OR $5/family. No registration required.

As fall turns into winter, many Native Peoples begin to relate stories of their origins and myths. Bring the family and enjoy an evening of traditional Native drumming, singing, and wonderful storytelling.

Astronomy Program on Saturday

"Star Clusters in Galactic Centers"
Saturday, November 7; 7:30 p.m.

Public viewing night:

Doctor Cornelia Lang, The University of Iowa, will characterize the massive stellar clusters in our own Galactic center and compare them to what is known about similar clusters in nearby galaxy centers. She will also highlight new results on how stars near the Milky Way's center are organized and formed and related to the supermassive black hole that lurks there.


Weather permitting, the presentation will be followed by viewing through CAA telescopes.

This program is free, but donations are accepted. The EIOLC is located at 1365 Ivanhoe RD, 2 miles west of Hwy 1, south of Mt. Vernon.

Fishermen & women: Stay warm next weekend at Wickiup Hill. Fishing gurus from far and wide will gather at Wickiup for this great seminar. Come and learn about rodbuilding with many masters of the art throughout the midwest.

A variety of topics will be presented including guide placement systems, tools of the trade and much more. From beginners to professionals, all will leave with knowledge to produce improved custom fishing rods.
